Welcome Message from the Author
Hi ☺ I’m Jasmine Navarro, creator of Creative Confidence © , the interactive coaching program to create confidence in teens and young adults.
I hope that you will be able to use this program and workbooks to connect with the teens and young adults that you are working with and guide them on their own unique confidence journey. Participants will be able to record their journey through the program using the workbooks provided.
My aim in creating this program is to provide a safe, nurturing environment in which a teen or young adult can feel secure and confident to explore themselves and the environment they are in.
This interactive program teaches a variety of skills and techniques catering for a wide range of learning styles, to support the participants on their journey of self-discovery, gaining awareness of themselves in their own time and at their own pace.
I recommend that this user guide is printed out and kept beside you, so you can refer back to it when working in your UnitusTI account. Thank you for subscribing to Creative Confidence © .
Introduction to this User Guide
The following points are all guidelines that I have found helpful to get the most out of sessions with your client. Some of the guidelines are general, whereas others I have gained through experience and knowledge. Coaching is constantly evolving and we are always learning.
I hope these guidelines and the workshop outlines will encourage you to present Creative Confidence using your own unique coaching style, and in turn offer teens and young adults an opportunity to create confidence and fulfill their potential.
What is Creative Confidence © ?
Creative Confidence © is a series of workshops combining interactive tools and techniques to create confidence in teens and young adults.
This interactive program teaches a variety of skills and techniques catering for a wide range of learning styles. Each workshop starts with creating a safe space and setting the scene, group rules and a confidentiality agreement. Participants start by acknowledging their own feelings at that moment in the form of an emoji, word or drawing. An icebreaker follows this to enable everyone to feel comfortable, safe, relaxed and connected.
Each workshop is created to enable each participant to spend quality time with themselves, answer powerful questions, complete various exercises and learn new tools and techniques to gain a deeper understanding of themselves.
Throughout each workshop, I encourage those involved to record key learnings in a workbook provided and reflect on those learnings in the days that follow.
Each workshop takes the participants on a journey of self-discovery, gaining awareness of themselves in their own time and at their own pace. These sessions ultimately help a person to build a healthy relationship with themselves which will, in turn, improve the relationships they have with others in their lives.
Each workshop has its own theme, whether that’s identifying values or encouraging self- belief through self-discovery - all leading to an improved level of self-confidence and self- awareness.
Coaching Sessions
1. Ongoing questions to ask yourself:
- Are you the ideal coach?
- Does your coaching style match the client and their needs, or is there somebody more qualified and suitable?
- Homework and accountability
- Will you be providing homework for each session? How will you keep your client accountable for this? Does your client respond to being given homework?
- Tough conversations
- Some coaching conversations can be difficult. How will you navigate your client not wanting to answer a question? Does your client know that they may experience uncomfortable emotions during the sessions, possibly unintentionally?
- Session attendance
- Do you have an attendance or cancellation policy? Where is this being communicated to your client?
2. Pre-Session Preparation
Ensure that you have a quiet space available for the session. If meeting virtually, respect privacy and confidentiality, and make sure that you have a strong internet connection.
If a face-to-face meeting, have colours, pencils and a copy of the necessary workbook that correlates with the workshop.
If you have confidentiality documentation, ensure this is filled in and signed before the session commences.
Decide which Creative Confidence © Online Workshop video you will be using in your session (if any) and ensure you have the right materials and equipment ready.
3. Confidentiality Agreement and Caregiver Feedback
For under 18s, explain that all sessions will be confidential unless you are worried about their well-being. As a guideline, I create a feedback email with the following information to send to parents or caregivers after the session with my client’s permission. This creates a level of trust between coach and client, but also reassures parents.
Example email (all optional):
This week I asked [Client Name]:
- Key learnings from today's session:
- Two actions to take and two actions not to take before our next session:
- My request from parents (example; client feels pressure from parents so would like them to step back):
- Challenge for the week (challenge client has set themselves for the upcoming week):
- One word to sum up the session:
Included in your list of assessments is an optional feedback form to record these answers in UnitusTI, which will allow you to save the answers in the client’s record and export them as a file to send to caregivers. To do this, assign the “Creative Confidence: Session feedback for caregivers” assessment to your client in Manage Assessments. When you are ready to fill in the answers, go to Run Assessment in UnitusTI. After answering all the questions, click “Submit” to create a time stamped record. The form will then reset and can be used again for another session. A record of your client’s answers and the date they were recorded will be viewable in Manage Assessments. Export the answers to attach to your email to the caregiver from the Assessment dashboard (in the Dashboard menu area).
Another way to capture session feedback in UnitusTI and provide it to caregivers is to use Session Notes. Session Notes also allows you to ask other questions or change the above questions to your preference. Using a session note, you will need to write in the questions listed above (or create your own). Create a session note easily from Run Program or from the My Clients page (watch a quick walkthrough here .)
4. Setting the Scene (Session 1)
During the first session interaction, your client may be apprehensive about what to expect. They may be feeling nervous, and therefore withdrawn. Ensure your client is comfortable and in a calm and quiet environment. Sit at a reasonable distance so you’re not intruding in their personal space, but you can hear and see them perfectly. I suggest sitting approximately a metre away. Think about where you are sitting; directly across from your client might be intimidating for them, especially at the beginning. Use your intuition on whether the set up is working throughout the session.
Introduce yourself: your name, what kind of coach you are and a little bit about your experience.
Reassurance is key. Make sure your client understands that there isn’t anything they can do right or wrong, and there will be no judgment from you as a coach. They won’t be forced into doing or saying anything that they don’t want to. These sessions are to serve them and they will be the ones guiding/leading them. Your client can refuse to answer questions if they do not feel comfortable. Ensure they know how to navigate the situation.
Avoid praising or encouraging your client, let them guide and lead the session as much as possible. The goal is for your client to feel inner pride, not be dependent on external validation.
Some possible useful first questions to ask:
- Have they had coaching before?
- Do they know what coaching is?
- Do they know the difference between a coach and a mentor?
Make sure your client understands that as a coach, you will not be telling them what to think and do. A coach does not give advice - this is the role of a mentor. Sometimes, you will be in ‘mentor mode’ and that is completely fine, just make sure you are making it clear to your client.
Your client has the answers and you, the coach, will help them find the answers within them. You will work together to serve them.
Relax, smile and show them that you are human ☺
During the first session, it’s nice to get to know a little bit about your client. Ask them what they love - hobbies, foods, likes and dislikes. This will allow your client to relax.
Ask your client if they think there is anything you should know before you coach them, what don’t they want from you. How would they like to be coached? They may find these questions strange, so if you notice that they may be feeling pressured, remind them that it’s okay. Let your client know that you’re not going to be telling them what to do or say and that they can circle back to the question later if they think of an answer.
It’s important to mention that coaching is about questioning and there will be lots of them - these are called powerful questions. Explain that these are open questions to encourage new learnings and insights, and the answers might not come to them straight away (and that's OK!).
In coaching, your client may have new learnings, insights and realisations. These might come to light during the sessions or between the sessions - either is fine.
The key point here is establishing rapport and respect, creating a safe place to build trust between you both, so the client can open up in their own time and feel safe enough to do so.
It’s very important to remain calm and approachable throughout and let your client lead the sessions.
Ask your client what they would like to gain from these coaching sessions. If they don’t know, reassure them that this is absolutely fine, and be sure to check in with this from time to time. It is advisable that your client comes to each session with an idea of what they would like to work on, or a topic to discuss. If they don’t have one, you can both work and explore together to find one organically. The workshops are built to support your sessions, so refer to them whenever necessary.
During your first session with your client, complete a short assessment (detailed below) to see how satisfied they are in their life now. It is not graded and neither rating is wrong or right. It is merely a starting point for them, to be recorded and revisited at the end of the program.
5. Standard Sessions
It’s beneficial for each session with your client to start in a familiar way. This ensures ease and comfort for your client. Steps can include:
- Setting the scene (environment, furniture etc)
- Relaxation techniques (deep breaths) to bring the client to the present moment
- Ask your client ‘what topic would you like to discuss today?’
Creative Confidence © Online Workshops Tools & Techniques
The following tools and techniques are used throughout Creative Confidence © workshops. Using my experience, I have put together some prompts and ideas that you can use should you wish. Feel free to elaborate and use your own coaching skills to adapt to the needs of your client.
1. Standard Icebreaker
Every workshop starts with the question e.g. “How are you feeling?”
Give your client time to answer, without offering any prompts to begin. Something to keep in mind - do they know what a feeling actually is? You may need to elaborate.
Your client may answer “good” or ‘fine”. These are not feelings. Show them the feelings chart if necessary. Spend as much or as little time here as you feel required.
Starting the workshop in this way allows your client to get out of their head and into their body - creating the connection required in order to start listening to themselves. This is the first step for them to build a strong and healthy relationship with themselves.
2. Powerful questions
Powerful questions are an important part of every coaching session.
Try to ask your client open questions - “what, how, when” etc to encourage learnings and insights. Avoid closed questions which don't allow your client to expand on their answer.. Remember, some “why?” questions tend to be judgemental e.g. “Why did you do that?”
Use the phrase “What else?” to encourage your client to think and say more. This will allow them to go deeper, gaining more awareness of themselves and their thinking patterns.
When asking your client powerful questions, it is important to gauge your client’s reaction and sense how they are feeling. This will help you to know whether to ask follow up questions or change direction. If you don’t know how your client is feeling - ask them! It is important to ask permission from your client to continue, and in which direction. Remember - they are leading the session.
Powerful questions come from being curious on behalf of your client. They stimulate fresh thinking and can raise your client’s awareness. The best powerful questions are short and simple. Questions that I have used in the past:
- What do you really want?
- What is important about that?
- What do you need?
- How do you want to be in this situation?
- What else?
- What did you learn?
- What are you celebrating?
- Where did you fail? Tada!
- What would you do differently next time?
- What values are you honoring?
- What matters most to you?
- What is important enough to you that you will take a stand for it?
- What is the impact you would have on people in your life?
Feel free to expand on these based on your own experiences with your client.
3. Using Your Intuition
Using your intuition is an integral part of coaching. Using your intuition is like using a muscle in your body. The more you use it, the more you can trust it, and this is transferable to your client.
It’s also important to be authentic. Having the ability to be authentic with yourself as a coach allows you to be authentic with your client. If you get something wrong - that’s OK! Being open and honest about it is the most important part - as it builds trust with your client and allows them to see that they are able to make mistakes as well, it’s all part of the learning and growth process. And remember, in coaching, we celebrate our mistakes. If we’re not making mistakes, we’re not trying anything new.
Use your judgment throughout sessions to know when your client has had enough, or could benefit from something more challenging.
Here are a few questions that you can use to tap into your own intuition within a session.
- What is your client’s underlying mood?
- What does your client’s tone of voice tell you?
- What do you believe to be true about your client?
- What physical sensations do you have during your client’s sharing?
- What is next for your client?
- What is true about what your client is saying?
- What is not being said?
- What do you feel your client is not aware of?
4. Visualisations
Visualisations are another tool that are used throughout CreativeConfidence © to help tap into your client’s intuition and allow them to explore their subconscious to gain valuable insights. This could make the journey to deepened awareness more enjoyable.
Start by asking your client if they know what a visualisation is? Explain that it can be a useful and insightful technique to learn what their intuition is saying and what their inner self wants, rather than asking the mind. Feel free to elaborate based on your thoughts and experience.
Ask your client if they feel comfortable closing their eyes. Remind them there is no pressure and if they don’t feel or see anything during the visualisation exercise, that’s fine too. Sometimes it can take a few attempts to be able to see and/or feel something. Exploring and trying new techniques is key.
If your client feels uncomfortable and/or can’t relax, don’t go through with the visualisation exercise. Instead, ask if they would like to draw, write and /or talk about the visualisation topic. Alternatively, your client can watch the visualisation exercise video with their eyes open.
5. Record and Reflect
Throughout the workshops, there will be a chance for your client to record their learnings in their workbooks. At the end of each workshop, there will be time to reflect on these learnings.
Your client can write, draw or use other creative ways of recording (video/ voice notes etc) for their learnings. Make sure your client knows the different options available to them, if they choose to.
Materials
1. Diagnostic and End of Program Assessment
It is preferred that your client takes part in the diagnostic assessment during the first session and then again at the last coaching session. It should take no more than 10 minutes. The assessment is subjective, there is no wrong or right answer and it is purely to see and record the growth and changes of your client throughout the program.
This assessment is useful not only to the client, but to you as a coach. For example, with the results of the diagnostic assessment, you can ask the client which topic they would like to choose to explore first. This assessment is repeated at the end of the program and reflections can be made on each topic. New learnings and insights can be discussed if required.
2. Workbooks
Each workshop comes with an interactive workbook. It is not graded or assessed and is purely for your client (if they wish) to write, draw and record their learnings etc. They do not need to show you as their coach but it can be beneficial if they do. For example, you can use their recordings to go deeper into a topic during the sessions.
There are 10 workshops, all in varying lengths. Each workshop has been split into multiple videos. Use your digression to determine how many videos are watched during each session.
It is not advisable to cover more than one complete workshop in one session, as this could overwhelm your client. Simplicity is key.

During the storytelling exercise, notice what emotions come up for them. Try not to interrupt them, sit back and listen. Reassure your client that whatever emotions come up are fine. Once your client has finished their story, ask them what are they learning about themselves and what are they aware of now?
If your client doesn’t want to tell a past story, an alternative is to let them tell you their future story. For example, they can imagine they are 85 years old and they can tell their story if it has already happened - exactly as they dream of.
